Ohh, that's a very nice list and it gave me a few reminders that I'm pretty sure I haven't added to my todos yet. Thank you for the detail! I also didn't know you could add custom metadata fields to music, that sounds like a very good solution to the playlist problem. Maybe I'll have time to set it up one day, I keep losing my playlists with device upgrades and it's getting really unmanageable.

A home/media server really is a very convenient thing. All my music and video files go there and are accessible on whichever device I want without taking up space from the actively-in-use files that I constantly edit and otherwise use. I wholeheartedly recommend one..at least together with the backup solutions. I see you have a much more healthy approach to backups than I do, I really need to up my game on that front. :X
