haptalaon: A calming cup of tea beside an open book (Default)

Thank you :) Under my system, a too-hot day is also Stellar - it is inversion and overload, so that a drought or a famine or global warming or just that desert-like sense of our local friendly neighborhood nuclear reactor in the sky glaring down at us.

My friend is a vampire, so her book is written from an internal perspective - discussing energy, vampire ethics & so on. The idea is that if you're a creature that *feeds on energy*, then the standard technique of throwing up a sphere or barrier of energy is somewhat like throwing her a chocolate bar. Similarly, white glows like a beacon to the hungry, like an angler fish in the sea.

So - when dealing with a person, Power or entity whose specific power is "becomes stronger by taking in energy from others", the energy is what they want - you'd have to design a different strategy. And even "angry energy" or "repellent energy" is like, still an energy form, and perhaps a rich or tasty one. Blue, black or purple light for more of a subtle effect; or becoming like a rock or stone, something inert, something which has no energy; or something cunning like shifting energy frequencies, although that's too technical for me to understand just yet. Same with throwing an energetic curse or a bolt of energy at them - it's what they feed off, so it's just like providing lunch, and creating a connection they can travel back down.

Alternatively, you could use that sphere of white light the same way you'd use bait - to say distract while you make an escape, or draw them into a trap, or disguise what you're doing. But I think it helps to think of them not as "vampires" but as "energy specialists", and so anyone with that specialism is likely to be more sensitive and canny to a thing like that than me.

But for me, I think the trick would be to employ a Stellar reference point - becoming black, still, like a stone, like a mountain, like the sea, and generally cloaking with something which is either inert and will not react, dull and will not glow and has no life to it, or something which absorbs. If energy forms are to my friend like "yummy chocolate", then trying to be the equivalent of a frozen turkey - something they could defrost and cook, but there's also a packet of biscuits right there...Prey animals don't have to *beat* predators, the only have to make it inconvenient and not worth the predator's while to pursue them.

(On behalf of my friend, I'd like to speak up for the vampires :p It's just their nature - and one that can be balanced, controlled, and employed ethically. Of course, some people choose not to; and others aren't aware yet, so I guess its those who give the whole lot a bad name.)
