I’ve had to back off on FB—I had mostly stopped using it, but during the pandemic it was the easiest way for me to keep up with friends and family in the States so I went back. The pandemic hasn’t ended, but topics are moving on and now I’ve had to silence it again because I can go one moment from looking a a cute picture of my friend, to the next post being something—at best—upsetting, and at worse enraging.

Twitter always felt like a bunch of people screaming at me. I know people who swear they have found their communities and their best friends there, but every time I try to utilize it, it’s just a whole lot of noise. Tumblr is even worse.

I occasionally poke at Instagram because I like the idea of it, but it still has ended up feeling rather impersonal and noisy and I give up.

I’m a person of the Internet, but it’s a power that must be checked. I want to write and be read and responded to. But I think I’ll need to stick to places like this. I can’t cope with the rest.

(I do read the news once or twice a day, I am not ignorant of the world. But i also don’t feel I need to be appraised of everyone’s unfiltered and unanalyzed 240 character response 24/7 to be informed.)
