I admit that much of my response was wondering how this hole was made, and if it is going to injure the ice further. But if it is safe that way, then it is incredibly beautiful.
That's a good question! my assumption was like, I've seen videos of scientists boring these holes to go down and get information about what is in that layer of ice, like archeology looking at the layers of soil. But I don't know anything about the context
Good news on sourcing, I just looked for it (yes, I should have before, I know) and it turns out that the video is from Antarctica -- so it's definitely safe in that regard.
