Wretched, wretched Wordpress has changed from an old-school blogging platform to a "drag and drop artsy blocks" platform. This makes it easier and more intuitive to make beautiful modern-looking internet sites, but I find both making and reading those really inaccessible. Compared to sites like Dreamwidth, and those classic 90s websites with a site map and a side bar and all that. Sites where you can see the scaffolding. I can feel my task becoming more difficult, due paradoxically to these glossy tricks which are supposed to make it easier

I hated it when they switched to that light blue frame and keep pushing you back to it instead of letting you stay in the WP Admin view; I think if you host your own site you can still stick to just the admin view, though. That still seems somewhat unchanged though.
I still remember when Evernote was a nice note-taking platform... then they made it pale green and search-based instead of tree-based and I haven't wanted to use it since.

Blocks are like, an image block or a text block or a header block, just a formalisation of what you'd do with html but ughhhh it means I have to reformat everything for the website.
Evernote made such an mistake :/ all note taking programs are about how easily the user understands their data, and so changing the layout in this way is clearly destructive. Ugh.

I used to use scrivener for note taking in university (yes I paid for it) but I don't use it anymore because my main PC is a Linux. All you really need is a tree and all files accessible from one view. Maybe I should try to code something like that myself.
