I explictly keep my DW life as not Big Discourse, and I find myself annoying trying to avoid posting things that might lead to it (like what books I'm reading). It's about my life, the small things (and sometimes things that are not so small to me but are still really about my little life in this big universe).

A few months back, I was pointed to this post about the benefits keeping a diary, and that and the link inside of it convinced me to try diarizing each day again. I do it on DW because I found that DW (and formerly LJ) is where I tend to archive and reread things, whereas I may as well burn my paper journals for that which I actually ever revisit them.

That said, I do keep some information private--exactly where I live, who I work for, my son's legal name, etc. And there is the occasional private post that is only for my eyes. But none-the-less, it is a vital resource. I've used LJ/DW for more han 20 years now, and while many of the posts of my younger days feel a bit inane now, even embarrassing, it is the primary portal of my life and when I see the times where I didn't post for months or as long as a year, I now wish I had.
