Re: Mabon

In the astrological community, they talk about the sign Ophicus - a thirteenth zodiac sign. I vaguely understand this as - because the stars and the earth have changed position since the original Greek/Arabic/Babylonian astrologers started thinking and writing about the stars, the twelve signs are actually no longer accurate, and Ophicus is the sign for people in ~February. Look it up.

A parallel concept ive not seen discussed is - with the climate collapse and ecological breakdown changing the pattern of the seasons, any sort of seasonal cycle must change with it. Though for practicality's sake, it helps to have festivals on consistent days and months - any true nature-based faith,by which I mean - not just generic pagans, but ones who specifically make central the reality of nature in their craft - must respond to the land.

I was thinking today about Mabon's colours - browns, reds and oranges, not yet full autumn but the door to it, and specifically the rowans and hawthorns and red berries on the bush, and what it would mean for that lore were the seasons to shift. In Landcraft, a lot of my design is drawn directly from the colour correspondences of the land and weather and sunlight; the spirits follow the presence of certain colours, weathers or objects in the landscape; and they'd have to move or seem to move if this changed.
