But sometimes, I get annoyed at the culture underpinning this criticism. Like, Paganism as a kind of mid-life-crisis hobby for white guys who like real ale and collecting rare books. The assumption that - as there aren't very many of us - we should support what community there is by attending and supporting lowest-common-denomenator generic ritual. Because the ritual is just a bit of fun, and we all head to the pub afterwards.
It's the reality of us being a small, niche community; but there's no other religion in which this would be normal. Does more unite us than divide us? I don't know, I suppose not. I have nature spirits and gods and goddesses that I can kinda template in to generic rites. But I would love to celebrate my actual spiritual convictions with others, and I don't think that's an unreasonable hope or desire.
