The Marcosians were a Gnostic sect founded by Marcus, active in Lyon, France and southern Europe from the second to the 4th century. Women held special status in the Marcosian communities; they were regarded as prophetesses and participated in administering the Eucharistic rites. Irenaeus accuses Marcus of seducing his followers, and scornfully writes (Adversus Haereses I. 13, 4) that the whole sect was an affair of "silly women."

The New Age: dickdeep in bullshit since the 4th century and beyond. I both love and hate how much this could just be a description of something happening now

The phrasing my parents and I use to describe this kind of...everything...is taken from my dad's high school yearbook. A young lady wrote in--

"[name], you're a
HIPPY
HIPPY
HIPPY
HIPPY
Don't let the pigs get you down!"

So we call this (and other things) "Hippy-hippy-hippy", with the fourth "hippy" being optional.
