One example of how technology has become more user-hostile in the past two decades is that my laptop no longer comes with a decent Calendar program automatically, and none are being maintained either. This simply would not have been a problem on Windows '98, which would have seen a robust productivity tool as essential - conceptually, if nothing else, for establishing what a computer COULD be used for.
I hate modern technology, not because technology is bad, but because it treats its end-users as morons. We're the most digital-literate generation to ever exist on this planet, and yet over time our technology expects less from us, not more, when surely that's wrong and our facility with the basics would enable most average users to use more complex tools.
My husband has wisely and correctly guessed that the TTRPG community have me covered, probably because that's where you find all the autism (i.e., the people who care about customisation, personalised user experience, pleasurable technology and community-minded tech politics) but god damn it, it should not be this hard for calendaring to be...pleasurable? It is a normal person thing to do to keep a calendar which you need to enjoy looking at and working with.
