There's an interesting theory that changeling myths are about children with autism - autism comes on at about the right time, and modern parents too often talk about their autistic children as if they've somehow been replaced, and their "real" child is different. More darkly,  the theory also then reclaims stories of violence against changelings as stories we are still familiar with today, of parents murdering their disabled children.

It's interesting to me how far "autistic people are fairies will actually get you in providing effective support. We like dappled light, not direct sunlight and certainly not mechanical lights. We cannot tell a lie, and if you promise us something (even unintentionally) we expect you to have spoken truth also and land to repay what you have promised. We do better on diets with more fruit and water (y here's and a pervasive mystery connection between neurodivergence and odd gut conditions, like lactose or gluten intoletence). We like collecting shiny things, and are effusively happy around things which delight us so,  and unable to hide our despair when we are upset. We are bound by routine - see fairy tales in which faefae folk and are bound by taboos or must respond to certain signs or phrases. If you do something that makes no sense, like wear your socks backwards or boil eggshells, we probably will point it out to you. Some of us have otherworldly talents at musical instruments or deep stores of unusual lore.

We are supernaturally beautiful ;)
